They say heels bring you closer to God… But why is it that they just feel like torture for us? We’re all looking for the easiest and sexiest ways to walk in heels. So, what if we told you that the best ways don’t start with the shoe – but rather with your workout routine? According to the internationally famous healer, Yamuna Zake, “It’s not the shoes that are bad for you—it’s how you’re walking in the shoes that is bad for you.”

The key is to make sure you have a strong arch, you can achieve this by building up the sides of your feet and that will raise your arch and make it all around more pleasant to wear your stilettos.

Getting strong feet isn’t as difficult of a *feat* as you might imagine. Doing simple rolling exercises with a tennis ball for 5 minutes before bed can help. “It’s about creating balance with your foot and leg, so it doesn’t get stuck. Shoes cut off your circulation, your feet are locked up, the muscles never stretch, the bones start to calcify,” Zake says. “Don’t tie off your feet from the rest of your musculature: Work everything out together.”

The secret to her tennis ball workout is to balance the weight on different parts of the foot – from the outside edges, to the front, to the heel. While you are doing this the trick is to shift pressure to the different muscles and tendons while you are balancing, this is what will help you to walk straighter and improve your posture.

Other tips from the expert? If you have swollen ankles, stretch your foot on the tennis ball. This will increase circulation and relieve the pressure.

A simple standing technique that will help your posture if you are going to be on your feet for long periods of time is to, relieve pressure by putting weight on the outside edges of your feet instead of towards the toe and make sure you have plenty of toe room in the shoe (but not too much because then you will be slipping out).
